Why Magna Carta?

Magna Carta is a document that has defined the history of the English-speaking world since it was sealed 800 years ago by King John at Runnymede, June 15, 1215.

Dr Thomas Curran, who teaches in the Foundation Year Programme at the University of King’s College, has organized an expert panel comprised of academics and leading members of the legal profession to discuss this defining moment in our history and its legacy.

This kind of interdisciplinary conversation - linking professionals with the academic commuity - is very typical of the thoughtful discussions that take place at King’s on a vareity of topics.

Today, many people wonder why we study the humanities. Universities are asked to demonstrate the “value” they offer. At King’s we believe that by understanding the context for the events and values of the past, we are better able to find meaning in the present and our experience as citizens is enhanced.

Alumni, current and prospective students, parents, and members of the community at large are encouraged to participate. This talk is accessible to everyone.
